It’s coming. The World Cup bottle jobs. The kind that turns grown adults into master coaches overnight, questioning tactics, subs, and their lifelong trust issues after penalty shootouts.
Introducing the somewhat mysterious and somewhat private Artist of the Month, Nick Öhlo, a Marseille-based illustrator behind June's Thank You card. This one is dedicated to the moments we still talk about years later. The what-could-have-beens, VAR’s mysterious whereabouts, the near misses, and yes, France coming painfully close to back-to-back titles.

Nick Öhlo is an Italian illustrator and graphic designer based in Marseille, France, creating weird and wonderful characters inspired by cartoons, vintage graphics, friends, animals, and everyday life. His work blends playful colors with slightly punk energy, turning emotional moments into charmingly edgy illustrations.
This month’s Thank You card pays homage to the upcoming Football World Cup, capturing the emotional rollercoaster of football fandom: from penalty shootout meltdowns and tactical overreactions to the eternal phrase: “maybe next time.”
We caught up with Nick to talk cartoons, creative freedom, and his dream of one day creating his own cartoon — and starting a dog shelter.

StickerApp: Salut, Nick! We're super happy to have you as the June Artist of the Month! Tell us about yourself: Who is Nick Öhlo?
Nick: I'm Nick, an Italian illustrator and graphic designer based in Marseille, France. My work is inspired by everything around me: friends, animals, nature, cartoons, and everyday life. I love taking ordinary things and twisting them into colorful, weird little characters with vintage and punk-inspired vibes.
I have two big dreams in life: creating a crazy, colorful cartoon series and one day opening a dog shelter.
StickerApp: Oh wow, how cool! Tell us about your creative journey. How did it begin?
Nick: Honestly, probably way too early. I’ve always preferred drawing and watching Cartoon Network over studying.
As I got older, illustration slowly became the thing I naturally kept coming back to. For the last few years, traveling and discovering new places have also helped me find new inspiration and ideas for my work.

StickerApp: Nice. Was there a critical moment in your career that changed everything?
Nick: Doing my master’s degree in Portugal definitely changed things for me. I was studying editorial design and had to choose an elective course, so I picked illustration almost randomly. It immediately clicked. That experience completely changed how I saw creativity and made me realize that illustration was something I wanted to pursue seriously.
StickerApp: What drives you as an artist, and what advice would you give to new artists?
Nick: Cartoons have always been a huge inspiration for me. Shows like Adventure Time and Gumball completely blew my mind creatively and still inspire me today.
I’m also inspired by everyday life, friends, nature, strange conversations, random emotions, basically everything around me can become a drawing at some point.
StickerApp: Gotta love a good cartoon! How would you define your style?
Nick: I usually describe my style as “weird and cute.” Maybe “anti-style” and “funny,” too. I love experimenting with different mediums and techniques because I’m still curious about everything. Since I don’t come from a traditional fine art background, I approach creativity in a really spontaneous way, and I think that keeps things exciting.

StickerApp: So true! Tell us about the design of your June Thank You card: What was your inspiration?
Nick: Hehe, once the StickerApp team briefed me on the football theme, the inspiration was everywhere. I basically just had to watch my friends react to matches.
The emotional chaos, the stress, the overconfidence, the heartbreak after penalties, it’s honestly the perfect mix of comedy and tragedy. I wanted the illustrations to feel funny, dramatic, and painfully relatable at the same time.
StickerApp: Nailed it! How do you use stickers for your business and personal brand?
Nick: I love giving stickers away to people. There’s something really nice about knowing your drawings are traveling around with someone else, ending up on laptops, streets, sketchbooks, or in places you’ll probably never see yourself.
I think stickers are one of the most fun and personal ways to share art.
StickerApp: Agreed! Lastly, what are your goals moving forward?
Nick: I’d love to collaborate with a card game like Magic: The Gathering someday, or create a short animation for Adult Swim. Animation is definitely one of my biggest dreams because I love bringing characters to life and exploring the storytelling side of illustration.
Thank you so much for chatting with us, Nick! Keep up with Nick, head over to his Instagram: @nick_ohlo.
